1 min read

CXL Member Company Cadence Design Systems recently took part in a Q&A session which addressed its involvement in the organization, expertise in the IP ecosystem, and benefits of CXL membership. Find the full Q&A session below.

Why did Cadence decide to join the CXL™ Consortium?

Cadence shares the CXL Consortium’s vision that a new interconnect technology is needed to further advance performance in data centers and high-performance computing. As a leading provider of IP for PCIe®, Cadence can make significant contributions to the work of the consortium.

What expertise does Cadence bring to the consortium?

Availability of a complete IP ecosystem is essential to CXL gaining wide industry adoption and support. Cadence has been a leading provider of PHY, Controller, and Verification IP for PCIe for nearly two decades. As CXL and PCIe share much of the same framework, Cadence brings to the consortium our extensive know-how in building and delivering best-in-class high-performance PHYs and controllers.

By collaborating closely with consortium members, including many leading companies, we get first-hand information on system requirements, emerging applications, and implementation challenges. This close collaboration allows Cadence to get real-time feedback for its IP product development.

What use cases will be ideal targets for CXL technology? Which market segments will benefit from CXL?

Cadence has seen high interest levels in IP for CXL that targets memory expanders and accelerator devices for AI and networking.

What does Cadence see as CXL’s impact within your industry?

We believe CXL will bring drastic performance improvement to the next-generation data center and will unleash new capabilities in high-performance computing.
