CXL™ Consortium member company Mobiveil recently took part in a Q&A session with CXL Consortium to discuss CXL’s impact within the storage and memory industry, advantages of CXL membership and ideal use cases for CXL technology. Can you share a brief introduction of Mobiveil?
Mobiveil, Inc. specializes in the development of Silicon Intellectual Properties (SIP), Application Platforms and Engineering Services for Data Center, Flash Storage, 5G and Industrial IoT applications. The Mobiveil team leverages decades of experience in delivering high‐quality, production‐proven high-speed serial interconnect Silicon IP cores and custom and standard form factor hardware boards to leading customers worldwide. Mobiveil’s key strengths are strong expertise in high-speed serial interconnect IP blocks and state-of-the-art ASIC/FPGA and System level engineering services. Why did Mobiveil decide to join the CXL™ Consortium?
We are a key supplier of PCI Express® (PCIe®) Controller IPs to many customers. Many of these customers are in Datacenter/Enterprise storage and acceleration industries. Considering these two factors, joining the CXL Consortium was a no brainer. Our IP blocks and engineering services can help accelerate CXL-based ASICs and FPGA product development for our customers.
What expertise does Mobiveil bring to the consortium?
What we bring to the CXL community is 20+ years of developing and delivering high speed serial controller IP blocks that can be easily integrated to customer designs. We will take care of the CXL design, keep the IP updated and work with the consortium members to keep it compliant to the latest standard. Our IPs are feature rich and highly configurable and have all the hooks needed to integrate with customer ASIC/FPGA designs. Our customers could easily integrate our CXL IP and not worry about CXL functionality and compliance. We also have an engineering services arm that can help customer in doing IP level and Chip level integration, verification, and validation. It’s a complete package to accelerate customer’s CXL designs.
What is the biggest advantage of CXL Consortium membership? How does Mobiveil participate?
The biggest advantage is the ability to work with leaders of the industry in developing CXL technology, helping innovations in datacenter memory/acceleration and next generation use cases. We participate in the technical working groups as well as marketing working group meetings. Mobiveil also conducts interoperability testing of our CXL IP with other CXL members. We look forward to participating in future technical events and seminars along with other member companies.
What use cases will be ideal targets for CXL technology?
Ideal use case targets for CXL technology will be in datacenter memory expansion, tiered memory architecture, networked memories/caching, AI/ML acceleration and more.
What does Mobiveil see as CXL’s impact within your industry?
We see CXL technology having a tremendous impact within the industry and expect that this technology will be as popular as PCI Express. We believe CXL can bring forward new applications to the datacenter industry.
