The Compute Express Link™ (CXL™) Consortium will have several presentations at the 8th Annual SNIA Persistent Memory and Computational Storage Summit, taking place virtually April 21-22, 2021. I encourage you to register to attend the conference to gain insight into the future of technology and trends from leading storage and memory experts. View the complete list of speakers, including CXL Consortium’s David Wang and Andy Rudoff.

CXL Architecture Benefits for Computational Storage

David Wang, Director of Memory Product Planning at Samsung Electronics, will present on Architecture and Benefits for Computational Storage at 12:35-1:05 pm PST on Wednesday, April 21.

Wang’s presentation will focus on CXL 2.0, released in November 2020, which adds support for switching enabling fan-out and connection to more devices; memory pooling for increased memory utilization efficiency and providing memory capacity on demand; and support for persistent memory. The architecture of CXL 2.0 enables computational storage, while maintaining full backwards compatibility with previous CXL specifications.

CXL and Persistent Memory

Andy Rudoff, Senior Software Engineer with Intel, will discuss CXL support for persistent memory at 10:40-11:10 am on Thursday, April 22.

CXL includes support for memory devices and provides a natural place to attached persistent memory (pmem). In this presentation, Rudoff will discuss the additions made to the CXL 2.0 specification in order to support pmem, including device identification, configuration of interleave sets and namespaces, event reporting, and the programming model. He will also describe how multiple standards like CXL, ACPI, and UEFI all come together to continue to provide the standard SNIA NVM Programming Model for pmem.

Join the CXL Panel Discussion

In addition, don’t miss our panel presentation “CXL: Expanding the Memory Ecosystem,” taking place at 1:45-2:45 pm on Thursday, April 22. The panelists will discuss how CXL works and how it changes the use of memory, accelerators and memory management, as well as use cases, availability and how to get involved. The discussion will be moderated by Tom Coughlin of Coughlin Associates and include Andy Rudoff (Intel), David Wang (Samsung), Chris Petersen (Facebook), Glenn Ward (Microsoft), and Leah Schoeb (AMD).
