By: CXL Consortium Software & Systems Workgroup

To complement the CXL 2.0 Specification, the CXL Consortium Software & Systems Workgroup published the Overview of RAS in CXL 2.0 White Paper. This white paper shares details on the key RAS capabilities of the CXL 2.0 Specification and provides some recommendations of their usage.

RAS remains an important consideration in server design, deployment and use in data centers. The CXL protocol includes RAS features, allowing for our members to create a rich heterogeneous ecosystem that will suit the emerging end-user requirements.

The CXL 2.0 specification enables the flexible configuration of compute, memory, storage, and networking while enabling resilience at scale. This white paper first provides an overview of RAS in warehouse-scale computing infrastructures, a primer on key RAS concepts, and an overview of foundational RAS features in CXL that are common to both the 1.1 and 2.0 versions of the specification. It also highlights RAS enhancements introduced in CXL 2.0 with recommendations on usage and implementation examples. Please refer to the CXL 2.0 specification for all the supported RAS capabilities.
