The CXL™ Consortium has released two animated videos on the official CXL YouTube Channel introducing the Compute Express Link™ protocol and the new features of the CXL 2.0 specification. The straightforward and engaging format of these videos brings the viewer into the landscape of CXL technology and showcases its features.
The Introduction to Compute Express Link™ (CXL) Technology video is a beginner’s guide to CXL technology as a whole. CXL is an industry supported cache-coherent interconnect for processors, memory expansion and accelerators. The video serves as a helpful resource for introducing CXL technology in an accessible format. Watch the video here.
The CXL™ 2.0 Overview video explores the new specification. CXL 2.0 moves beyond a single node to provide breakthrough performance at a larger scale. Released in December 2020, the CXL 2.0 specification adds switching support providing fan-out to enable connection to more devices; memory pooling for increased memory utilization efficiency and providing memory capacity on demand; and support for persistent memory. The CXL 2.0 specification also supports full backwards compatibility with CXL 1.1. This video brings each new feature of the CXL 2.0 specification to life by showcasing the technology behind it in an easy-to-follow format.
